THE LIVES OF OTHERS
We seek that which is not ourselves.
How we came into the world isn’t the only thing that determines who we are. We are all cobbled together by the interplay of the past, our time and place of birth, our beliefs and our ethnic roots, our cultural and genetic legacies, our upbringing as well as our idiosyncratic tendencies and preferences. The list goes on.
What actually interests us more is who we are not; we are interested in Others. We want to understand them and know them, just as they are.
We want to be able to see life not only from our own perspective, but also from that of the Other, and to be able to look back at ourselves differently from that Other perspective.
We would like to encounter and share Other thoughts, loves, beauties, pleasures and pains, and everything about Others’ lives.
We would like to come closer to Other lives by turning our lenses and not our prejudices upon them, to shine a light on them and share them with the world.
We would like to share life with Others instead of living it in homogeneous isolation.
For better or worse, and whatever may happen, we would like to know and understand Others’ lives.
We know another life is possible. And we can only get there if we build it with Others.
