Born in İstanbul, in 1973, İşigüzel studied anthropology at İstanbul University. In 1993, she published her first book, Moon Shall Rise Upon the House, which won the Yunus Nadi Story Award in the same year. Her later works are Who Will Tell My Story? (story, 1994), Lizard, My Old Friend (novel, 1996), Vine (novel, 2002), Wasteyard (novel, 2004), The Parade (novel, 2008), Shadow of My Eyelashes (novel, 2010), Venus (novel, 2013), Manor of Tears (novel, 2016), and The Girl in the Tree (novel, 2016). Her novels have been translated into numerous languages. Living and working in İstanbul, Şebnem İşigüzel is a mother of two children.
