Other Side of the River
The photography project Other Side of the River; while focusing on the border
experience of the villagers from Bagaran (Armenia) and Halıkışlak (Turkey)
that are stationed along the riverbank of Arpaçay/Ahuryan and Araks/Aras,
discusses the physical and cultural state of being both close and far of
“the other side”. In an atmosphere of communication based on voices and the
presence of the imposed visualization regarding to those voices, this body of
work aims to bring the other side of the river into view. On the other hand
curiosity fed by daily life practices and myths and consolidated by fear and
uncanniness is within the scope of work. In a sense, this body of work aims to
contribute to the pursuit of understanding, facing fears and history and
developing a common language between the societies of Turkey and
Armenia.
